22 Div Soldiers Contribute to 'Diabetes Walk'

Around 60 Army personnel of the 22 Division Headquarters, including woman soldiers of the 5 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps (SLAWC) and 221 Brigade actively contributed to the successful conduct of the recent 'Diabetes Walk' of the 'Let's Defeat Diabetes' project of the Sri Lanka Diabetes Federation and the 306 Lions Club.

Those troops when the 'Diabetes Walk' began from Trincomalee Hindu Cultural Centre ground joined the walk, launched to create Diabetes awareness among the general public. The event also assisted the general public to learn more about this preventable disease which claims thousands of lives every year.

Lions Club project chairperson Lion Wasantha Gamage has requested Major General Aruna Jayasekara, General Officer Commanding, 22 Division for participation of Army personnel in the walk when it inaugurates in Trincomalee.

At the launch of the 'Diabetes Walk', religious dignitaries, Major General Aruna Jayasekara, General Officer Commanding, 22 Division, Mr Nimal Perera, DIG Trincomalee, Mr S Arul Rasa, Additional District Secretary, Lions District Governor Rupa Dheerasinghe, Dr Prasad Katulanda, Chairperson, Sri Lanka Diabetes Federation, several Senior Army and Police Officers and a gathering of about 250 civilians participated in the inauguration of the walk.
