The 21 Division's new General Officer Commanding (GOC), Brigadier Kumar Jayapathirana assumed duties on Friday (19) at the 21 Division Headquarters of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ- W).
A formal Guard Turnout saluted the new GOC upon his arrival at the Division Headquarters premises, Ranasewapura in Anuradhapura in keeping with military traditions. Troops of the 7 Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) at the entrance saluted the 26th GOC of the 21 Division who succeeded Major General Ruwan De Silva.
Afterwards, amid religious blessings, he left his signature for an official document and symbolized the acceptance of his new office. Members of the Maha Sangha invoked blessings as he lit the traditional oil lamp. Later, he was invited to plant an ironwood (Naa) sapling in the premises as a symbol of memory. After a while, he addressed all ranks and set out his vision for conduct of duties and roles in the 21 Division.
Brigadier Kumar Jayapathirana before the new appointment served as the Brigadier General Staff at the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W). Before that, he held a number of appointments in command, instructional and staff capacities. He also had served as the Commandant at Marksmanship and Sniper Training School in Diyatalawa as well as at Kukuleganga Institute of Peace Support Operations Training in Sri Lanka.
