21 Division Clinches SFHQ-W Swimming Championship

The finals of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) - organized Inter Division Swimming Competition - 2018 got underway at the 21 Division Swimming Pool complex in Anuradhapura on Saturday (17).

The two-day long annual swimming meet on par with international standards was conducted showing the best of professionalism under the supervision of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 21 Division, Major General Ruwan De Silva.

Major General Kumudu Perera Commander, Security Forces - Wanni (SF-W), attended the finals as the Chief Guest and gave away trophies to winners.

21, 54, 56, 61 and 62 Divisions and Forward Maintenance Area - North Central (FMA-NC) along with 2 (V) and 4 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) teams competed in various events for the championship during 16 - 17 March 2018.

The attraction of the day was the competition for champions among 8 major schools representing Anuradhapura Education Zone for the year 2018. The team from Walisinghe Harishchandra College, Anuradhapura won the boys’ championship while the girls’ category was won by A/Swarnapali Girls’ College.

The Swimming Meet establishing many records in both men’s and women’s events exhibited professional talents of swimmers in the Army and schools.

The Men’s overall championship was carried away by the 21 Division while the FMA-NC emerged as the runners-up. In the women’s event, 4 (V) SLAWC became the champion battalion while 2 (V) SLAWC became the runners-up.

Lance Corporal U.K Chathuranga, FMA (N/C) and Trooper R.M Jayasinghe, 21 Division became co-winners as best swimmers under Men’s category of Inter Division Swimming Meet - 2018 while Private S.M Gunathilaka was named as the best swimmer under Women’s category.

The General Officers Commanding , 21, 54 and 61 Divisions, Commander, FMA (N/C), Senior Officers from under command formations to the 21 Division, Principals and teachers together with students of nearby schools and a large number of Other Ranks made their presence in the finale of Inter Division Swimming Meet - 2018.
