A 16-acre land used by the Army to the West of Omanthai was released on Tuesday (17), including the area where the old and famous Omanthai checkpoint of the armed forces operated.
It was formally released to the District Secretary for Vavuniya during a brief meeting in the presence of the 563 Brigade Commander who represented the Commander, Security Forces-Wanni (SF-W).
However, formal routine duties of the nearby Army camp and the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) at Omanthai would continue as usual.
