2 Officers and 35 Other Ranks of the 16 Gajaba Regiment and 1 Sri Lanka National Guard of the 143 Brigade under the 14 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) took immediate steps to avoid a split in the Kolamune Oya bund in Bingiriya Divisional Secretariat area after stacking sandbags around affected areas spending more than 10 hours on Sunday (7).
On the directions of Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces - West, Major General Ralph Nugera, General Officer Commanding, 14 Division accordingly instructed 143 Brigade Commander to release those Army personnel for the emergency need after the Police alerted the troops in the area to this imminent danger.
