12 Division Marks Anniversary with a Variety of Programmes


Giving prominence to religious ceremonies, the 12 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) proudly, marked its 4th  anniversary with an all-rank lunch, military salutes, sports tournaments and other arrangements during March 19-April 2.

The anniversary programmes organized on the directions of Brigadier W.A.N.M Weerasinghe, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 12 Division, commenced with a series of sports tournaments, involving volley ball, cricket and tug-of-war.

The volleyball tournament was held on March 19 at the Divisional Headquarters grounds. 10 (V) Gemunu Watch (GW) Team won the tournament defeating its rival, 12 GW team.

The cricket tournament, held on March 25 at 10 (V) Corps of Engineers Grounds gave the victory to 10 (V) GW team defeating the 14 Gajaba Regiment (GR) team.

The tug-of-war was held at March 31 at the Divisional Headquarters grounds. 14 GR Team won the tournament defeating the 12 Division Team.

The religious programmes were held on 31 March at Kataragama Kirivehera and Kataragama Develaya premises with the participation of the GOC, 12 Division and other Army Personnel of the 12 Division.

On 1 April, troops of 12 Division offered a lunch treat to the inmates at ‘Sarana’ Visually Handicapped Elderly Home in Hambantota. GOC, 12 Division gave away gifts to the inmates in the wake of forthcoming Sinhala & Tamil New Year at the same occasion.

The climax of the military formalities took place with a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour, presented to the GOC at the 12 Division Headquarters in Hambantota on April 2 in accordance with military formalities.

The GOC, senior officers, officers in the same afternoon sat together with other ranks for a luncheon get-together as the final leg of the anniversary celebrations.
