11th UN Contingent for Lebanon Ready for Departure

The formal parade to officially signify the acceptance of the next UN contingent of the Sri Lanka Army Peace-Keeping Force bound for Lebanon took place at the Gemunu Watch (GW) Regimental Centre at Kuruwita on Thursday (9).

The scheduled contingent, comprised of 10 officers and 140 other ranks is to be commanded by Lieutenant Colonel C.A Rajapaksha of GW while Major M.A.T Muhandiramge of Mechanize Infantry Regiment would serve as the Second in Command. Meanwhile, Major M.M.M.P Mahesh Kumara of Sri Lanka Light Infantry and Major T.M.K.C Amarakoon GW are the Logistic Officer and the Operation & Training Officer respectively in the contingent.

The United Nations (UN) flag to the 11th contingent of the Sri Lanka Army Peace-Keeping Force was symbolically handed over to the contingent’s Commanding Officer at the same occasion at the Gemunu Watch (GW) Regimental Centre.

This is the second time GW is sending a contingent to Lebanon on UN Peace Keeping assignment.

Major General P.U.S Vithanage, Colonel of the Regiment, GW attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest along with senior officers and soldiers.
