“Army is in its Highest Readiness for Defence of the Country”- Commander at ‘Cormorant Strike’

“Sri Lanka Army is always in its highest readiness to defend the country in all aggressions. Ex-Cormorant Strike has been designed to enhance knowledge, skills and experience of Special Operations Forces (SOF) of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces which include Sri Lanka Army, Navy, Sri Lanka Air Force, dedicated to safeguard the territorial integrity & sovereignty at any future foreseeable threats. As we all know, literally we have two tasks at our hand at any given time whether it is peace or war. Fight during war and train during peace. Therefore, we have to "Train like we fight and fight like we train,” so remarked Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army in a brief speech to the gathering at the culmination of the final mock attack in Cormorant Strike - 2018 at Kuchchweli, this afternoon (26). “As an old military wisdom expressed, "we must not rely on the likelihood of the enemy's not coming, but on our own readiness to receive him". As we have come to the successful completion of Ex Cormorant Strike IX - 2018, as the Commander of the Army let me speak a few words at this momentous occasion,” the Commander continued.

First and foremost, let me express my sincere gratitude to the Chief Guest and all the distinguished invitees for coming all the way to Kuchchaweli to witness this event. We are deeply honoured by your presence.

“Ex Cormorant Strike” has been the flagship event of the Army in the process of achieving and maintaining battle readiness of our Armed Forces in order to meet asymmetric threats of contemporary adversaries of hybrid nature. Ex Cormorant Strike has been designed to develop a competent Special Operation Forces soldier and a conceptual framework for the employment of Special Operation Forces in view of imbibing the "Strategic corporal" concept of the Sri Lanka Army who will be future leaders.. Interoperability, mission command, sharing knowledge and information are key ingredients of our objectives.

In this endeavor, let me appreciate member of the all foreign militaries presence here with us by adding glamour and value to the Exercise. We are privileged to have your active participation for the premiere field training exercise of the Sri Lanka Army “Ex Cormorant Strike’ to share best practices of counter terrorism in a global platform. I greatly appreciate your contribution and sharing your valuable experience and knowledge with us. I have no doubt that you also benefitted from the first hand experience of elite Special Operations Forces who comprehensively defeated the most ruthless terrorist outfit of the world.

I will fail in my duty if I don’t make a specific comment about our civilian counterparts including media and other dignitaries. Thank you very much for all your support in creating a conducive environment for the conduct of Exercise which is a success. Your whole hearted approach in providing required assistance and coordination for this Exercise would take us a long way in the spectrum of joint warfare which has been identified as a key element of success in future warfare.
