‘Senehasa Gamata’ Assists Children with Special Needs

The stage IV of the ‘Senehasa Gamata’ programme of the Senehasa Education, Resource, Research and Information Centre (SERRIC) for children of the tri-services, Police and the Civil Security Department (CSD) with special needs got underway at the National Education Centre in Kahawatta and Ratnapura Sumana Girls' College respectively during 23-24 March where a team of Medical Consultants, Paedtricians, Psychiatrists and experts screened more than 700 children with special needs in families of security and Police personnel.

The SERRIC, managed by the Ranaviru Seva Authority (RVSA) of the State Ministry of Defence has launched this project in order to focus on development of those children and provide a holistic healing process for both children and their parents alike. It was also aimed at attracting such groups to make use of special resources available at the SERRIC in Narahenpita.

During the programme, measures were also taken to get those children admitted to schools since some of them were not attending schools due to various reasons.

The project coordinated by Lieutenant Colonel H.A.E.S Prasanna Kumara, Director, SERRIC was supported by the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Pradeep Wettasinghe and the Ratnapura Senior Superintendent of Police.
