‘Healthy Army-Healthy Nation’ Goes to Jaffna & Kilinochchi

Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) organized one more round of ‘Healthy Army - Healthy Nation’ awareness programme at the SFHQ-J auditorium in close coordination with the 4 Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps on Thursday (5).

The programme focused on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

This programme, organized with the blessings of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva is coordinated by the Directorate of Army Medical Services.

Brigadier A.S.M Wijewardana, Consultant Physician & Campaign Coordinator, Colonel R.M.M Moneragala, Consultant Psychiatrist, Colombo Army Hospital and Lieutenant A.C.K Udugama, Nutritionist educated the attendees on the importance of maintaining sound health and dietary habits.

Brigadier A.S.M Wijewardana appreciated the efforts taken by the SFHQ-J in organizing such an event to educate military personnel on NCDs.

Colonel Moneragala noted that the 2/3 of annual deaths in the country are due to NCDs. Bad personal habits such as smoking, alcoholism, obesity, unhealthy diet and lack of exercises are the main causes to these NCDs.

A total of 320 Army personnel, including 20 officers attended the programme.

In the meantime, one more lecture and a workshop on the same topic were held at the Nelumpiyasa auditorium in the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) on Friday (6).

The same panel of lecturers conducted the day’s programme and educated the military personnel on the NCDs.

Altogether 420 Army personnel, including 50 officers participated in this programme at Kilinochchi.
