‘Army Para Games-2018’ Brings to a Close with Pomp & Pageantry

The closing ceremony of the ‘Army Para Games-2018’, the annual exhibition of sports talents of some 700 differently able War Heroes of the Army took place at Diyagama Sports Stadium Friday (21) evening with pomp and pageantry.

Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, Chief of Defence Staff at the invitation of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, participated in the event as the Chief Guest and joined the distribution of trophies and prizes to all those who championed in athletic and track events during the three-day (19-21 September) long tournament that offered a stimulant to those participants.

On arrival, the Chief Guest was warmly welcomed by Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake Commander of the Army, together with Senior Military Officers and conducted to the main dais.

Wheelchair Basket Ball, Badminton, Cycling, Wheelchair Marathon, Archery, Weight-Lifting, Volleyball, Volleyball (sitting), Beach Volleyball, Table Tennis, Cricket, Swimming, Wheelchair Tennis, Air Rifle Shooting and Athletics are among major sports, competed by those sportsmen during the tournament.

The soldiers of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry, the oldest military regiment in the country was adjudged overall Champions at this year’s games whilst the Gajaba Regiment and Vijayaba Infantry Regiment emerged as the first-runner up and the second-runner up.
