'SUWASAHANA' FUND TO COVER MEDICAL BILLS OF PARENTS OF ARMY BACHELORS

The ‘Suwasahana’ fund of the Army that came into effect with multiple benefits to Army personnel and their families, covering medical expenses of the soldier, his/her spouse and children, has now been extended to cover the parents of unmarried Army personnel, too on the directions of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva.   

Under this ‘Suwasahana’ fund, inaugurated in January 2014, Army personnel/parents/children are each entitled to receive a maximum sum of Rs 6 lakhs as medical assistance in the event any of them has been compelled to undergo treatment in any government or private hospital for 21 specified diseases/ailments/illnesses which have been identified under this scheme.

Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, taking a personal interest in this regard has directed the Directorate of Welfare of the Army, responsible for implementation of the ‘Suwasahana’ fund to accordingly provide those entitlements to the unmarried in the Army and their parents, effective from 8 May 2015.

The categorization of those serious ailments/diseases includes Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack), Coronary Artery By Pass Surgery, Heart Valve/Septic Surgeries, Surgery to the Aorta, Coronary Angioplasty, Brain Tumors, Motor Neuron Disease, Muscular Dystrophy, Blindness, Deafness, Stroke, Paralysis (Paraplegia/Quadriplegia), Chronic Lung Disease, Major Organ Transplant, Kidney Failure, Fulminate Hepatitis, Chronic Liver Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Coma, Cancer and HIV Infection from Blood Transfusion.
