‘Guardians’ Mela’ at Aethugalpura Attract Record Spectators

The annual fund-raising project of the Regiment of Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG), ‘Guardians’ Mela - 2015’, that went on boards during December 28 -31 at Kurunegala, Maligapitiya grounds on the theme, ‘Wasara Awasana Vindaneeya Wenasak’ (the exceptional experience in the year’s end), proved to be a resounding success with a record number of spectators, exceeding nearly two lakhs on all four days.

The mega variety show with popular musical bands like, Sunshine, Sunflowers, Seeduwa Sakura and Flashback during the period turned out to be a huge trade fair with entertainment where all household items, garments, traditional sweet meats, house appliances, food items and essentials were sold at concessionary rates. 

Meticulously organized following directions given by the SLNG Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Udaya Perera, the mega show of the North Western Province was coloured by ornamental fireworks during all four nights, in addition to all other fun-making events. 

SLNG Centre Commandant, Brigadier D.H.M.W.B Tammita, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General E.M.M Ambanpola and SLNG Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Udaya Perera ceremonially inaugurated the ‘Guardians’ Mela - 2015’ respectively. 

The massive crowds, believed to be one of the biggest gatherings that ever took place in Kurunegala were entertained by Senanayake Weraliyadda, Shanika Wanigasekara, Thikshana Anuradha, Ginger White, Romesh Sugathapala, Surendra Perera, Nadini Premadasa, Amila Nadishani, Shashika Nisansala, Lahiru Perera, Ruwan Hettiarachchi, Gayani Madusha, et.al and the clan of most popular vocalists, including Baila singers.  

SLNG is to use those funds for constructions in their Regimental Centre and also for the welfare benefit of all ranks in the SLNG.
