“Army Northern Games – 2014” Held at Vaddukkoddai Jaffna Draws to End

    
The “Army Northern Games – 2014” that got underway as part of the ongoing 'Healthy Army-Healthy Nation' project, initiated as a concept of the Commander of the Army, on Wednesday (19) drew to a close at Vaddukkoddai Jaffna College grounds with distribution of awards and certificates to  Army athletes who performed exceptionally well.

During the three-day long sports festival soldiers of all Divisions, Brigades and units of the Security Force Headquarters -Jaffna (SFHQ-J), divided into four teams as Headquarters SF-J (HQ SF-J) and Forward Maintenance Area (FMA) North, 51 Division, 52 Division and 55 Division and vied in all athletic events irrespective of bad weather conditions.

They exhibited their spirit of soldiering, endurance, discipline and espiri-de-corps while participating a range of events and games.
 
“Army Northern Games – 2014” was organized on the directives of the Commander SFHQ-J Major General Udaya Perera to be in line with the “Healthy Army-Healthy Nation'' project.

Commander Security Force Headquarters- Mullaithivu and Colonel of the Regiment, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Major General Jagath Dias graced the award ceremony as the Chief Guest.

Private W. M. S Priyangani representing the SFHQ-J and FMA North team was adjudged the best female athlete and Lance Corporal R. M. S. N Priyankara of the 51 Division was awarded as the best male athlete in the games. The 51 Division secured the trophy for champions pushing the 52 Division to be the runner up.
 
Twelve teams representing Jaffna schools and six Jaffna sports clubs also took part in exhibition relay competitions and the winners received financial gifts, medals and certificates from the Commander-SFHQ-J.
