Organized by Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) Regiment for the first time in its history, the two-day racing event, ‘Walawe Supercross – 2011’ for both drivers and riders.....
     
  • Commander Inspects Army's First Eco-Friendly Luxury Holiday Resort

     
    The Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya made an inspection tour to the ongoing construction of the first eco-friendly Army luxury holiday resort in Palatupana, Yala on Saturday (19). The luxury resort with a number of three storyed cottages will be made available to all members in the Army who served the country tirelessly in the fight against terrorism to enjoy their leisure time. The resort is built under a concept mooted by the Commander of the Army.

    To synchronize with the government’s national tree planting campaign, ‘Deyata Sevana’ that commemorated the President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s assumption of office, the 22 Division in Trincomalee organized a mammoth tree planting project with students from 9 schools.     A six-member foreign delegation, headed by Mr Ebrahim Ebrahim, South Africa’s Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation visited Wanni region last Friday (18) in order to receive an update on Sri Lanka’s post-conflict development roles taking place. Major General A.K.S. Perera, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ – W) welcomed the delegation on arrival at the SFHQ – W premises and conducted them to the auditorium.....

    A joint team of diplomats touring Kilinochchi and suburbs covering the Kokavil transmission tower area late last week met Major General Nandana Udawatta, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Kilinochchi (SFHQ – KLN) and exchanged views on matters, related to development, resettlement and security.     54 Division troops on Friday (18) organized several religious ceremonies in Mannar area in order to invoke blessings on the country and the assumption of office by HE the President. Religious observances at Mannar St Sebastian church, Mannar Sri Bimbarama Purana Viharaya, Mannar Tirukethishwaram Kovil and Mannar Jumma Mosque were attended by soldiers and people in the area.....
     
  • Trincomalee Eye Camp Donates Spectacles

     
    The Army serving Trincomalee area has in the past 2 years launched multifarious humanitarian projects for the benefit of low-income groups living in remote areas. As part of this programme, a special eye clinic was conducted on Saturday (19) at Trincomalee Jayasumanarama Temple, covering people living in Trincomalee suburbs and Kadawath Pradeshiya Divisional Secretariat. Over 450 people from those areas received medical consultations and spectacles during this full-day clinic.....
     
  • Kotelawala Defence University Convocation Produces 90 More Military Graduates

     
    The annual Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) Convocation - 2011 for conferment of Bachelor and Master degrees on 90 military officers, including 4 foreign cadets, took place Tuesday (22) evening at Temple Trees with HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. A total of 51 Army, 23 Navy,12 Air Force Cadet Officers and 4 foreign graduands (3 from Maldives and 1 from Nepal) read for those degrees under the Intake 25 at KDU and received graduation in Master of Science (Defence Studies) and Bachelor of Science (Defence Studies).
