  • Commander Inspects Proposed Second Wellness Resort Site For Southern War Heroes


    The second state of the art, ‘Abimansala’- type wellness resort for dependent Army War Heroes is to come up shortly at Wilpita, Kamburupitiya, thanks to the cooperation, extended by His Excellency, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the Army in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development.

    Sri Lanka Army, throwing its full weight behind the national tree planting campaign, ‘Deyata Sevana’ which began on Tuesday (15) at Battaramulla, launched a similar project across island-wide field formations after an inaugural ceremony, held at Panagoda Army Temple (Sri Bodhirajaramaya) premises.

    Sri Lanka Army troops, now at the forefront of erecting more and more new houses in the north for resettled civilians, on the directions of the government and other relevant agencies, embarked on another house construction project in Kombavil area under 68 Division in Puthukudiyiruppu on Tuesday (15).   • Wanni Headquarters Joins Tree Planting


    To coincide with the national tree planting campaign, ‘Deyata Sevana’ on Tuesday (15), the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ -W) launched a programme to plant 175 splings in the SFHQ - W premises. Senior officers including Brigadier A.K.P. Wickramasinghe, Lieutenant Colonel C.U.V. Marasinghe, Lieutenant Colonel A.A.D.N.S.P. Dunuwila and a few others took part in the programme Tuesday (15) morning.
     
  • Army Inter Regiment Kabaddi Championship After A Marginal Tussle Goes to SLLI

    A closely contested Kabaddi encounter in the Army at the last moment of the tussle recorded victory to the Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) against its equally competent Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) rivals on Wednesday (16) evening. Kabaddi, the popular South Asian sport which has now made its niche in the Army calendar of sports too, saw the Army had its Inter Regiment Tournament finals on Wednesday (16) at Maharagama Youth Council Indoor Auditorium.
     
     
  • 'Green Garden' Opened to Promote National Tree Planting Campaign


    Deyata Sevana,” the national tree planting campaign, spearheaded to coincide with His Excellency, President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s birthday was inaugurated at the auspicious time of 09.01 a.m.Tuesday (15) at Pelawatte, Battaramulla, close to Parliament on Japan-Sri Lanka Friendship road. President Mahinda Rajapaksa gracing the inaugural ceremony as the Chief Guest, accompanied by a large gathering of Cabinet Ministers, Ministers, Governors, Chief Ministers, Secretaries, Commander of the Army, Inspector General of the Police and invitees, added a new significance to the whole concept of tree planting by declaring a 700-acre plot of land near Parliament as the ‘Green Garden,’ following an initiative taken jointly by Ministry of Environment....

  • Trained Mine Detecting Dogs & Handlers Receive Certificates


    Sniffing dogs, donated by US State Department to the government for use in Sri Lanka Army Engineers’ de-mining work, received their training certificates, together with 16 of their dog handlers on Wednesday (16) during a brief ceremony at Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni.

    Award of trophies to participants in the year’s most colourful Inter Regiment Drill and Band Competition that recognizes multifaceted talents of Army personnel took place this morning (17) at Panagoda Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment grounds with pomp and pageantry. Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya as the Chief Guest witnessed the day’s proceedings with enthusiasm as the colourful Drill Display that testifies to the high standards of discipline, took centre-stage of the programme as the first item on the agenda.
