  • Military Police Players Clinch Men's Karate Championship

     
    Karate, the Japanese self defence system with use of hands and feet as weapons which has gained popularity across the country, has made great strides in the Army too, thanks to the efforts of the Army Karate Association. The Inter Regiment Karate Tournament of the Army, held early this week, was competed by a total of 356 players from 20 Regiments for 15 challenging trophies, including Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps.

    The forerunner to the forthcoming 56th Anniversary and the Regimental Day (December 15) ceremonies of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC), one of the pioneering and reputed Regiments in the Army, began on Friday (02) evening with offer of floral tributes and a religious ceremony at the SLAC Regimental Headquarters, Rock House, Muttwal. Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, himself a notable figure to be reckoned with in the SLAC, together with Mrs Laly Kobbekaduwa, the widow of Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa.....
     
  • Roles of Civil Staff Members Who Stood Behind North-East Humanitarian Operations Recognized in Medal Awarding Ceremony


    Contribution of four thousand and eighty-eight (4088) members of the civil staff in the Army who stood behind the Army’s unrelenting pursuit of humanitarian operations were recognized after symbolically awarding the North-East Medal to a representative group of 100 during a special ceremony at Army Headquarters Friday (2) morning.   • Courses in New Army School of Logistics in Full Swing


    The recently-established Army School of Logistics (ASOL) in Trincomalee, on a concept proposed by Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, is now going ahead with its training courses for Senior Non Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) after establishment of all facilities for the inmates.  Prospective soldiers to follow three more new training courses, Junior Officers Logistics Course (JOLC)....
     
  • Opportunity for Army Deserters to Leave Army

    Arrangements have been made for all officers and soldiers who are absent without leave (AWOL) whilst on active service in the Sri Lanka Army to formally leave Army with clearance. These arrangements have been made to coincide with the forthcoming Independence Day, starting from 4th February 2011 and will go on till 12th February 2011. The absentees can report to their respective regimental headquarters and get the official clearance....

  • Preparatory Phases of forthcoming 'Ex-Cormorant Strike V-2014' Now, On


    The preparatory phases of the annual joint military ‘Exercise - Cormorant Strike V - 2014’, with more than 2500 tri-service personnel participating, together with foreign military participants and observers, have now set in  from Mannar, Wanni, Matale and several other locations in the East under the command of Brigadier A.M.R Dharmasiri, Exercise Director.
  • Inter Regiment Athletic Championship Ends with New National & Army Records


    The closing ceremony of the 52nd Inter Regiment Athletics Championship of the Army and award of trophies to winners, took place at the Sugathadasa National Stadium Thursday (27) evening during a grand and wonderful ceremony. Organized by the Army Athletics Committee, chaired by Major General Amal Karunasekara, the closing ceremony was graced by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva as the Chief Guest.

    Sri Lanka Army’s Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR), one of the most renowned and recognized regiments, comprised of veteran infantrymen of the best quality and standards, received another notable feather in its cap when the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, for the first time after culmination of Wanni battles, conferred most admired President’s Colours and Regimental Colours on it during a ceremony at Kurunegala, Boyagane, VIR Regimental Headquarters Friday (22) morning.
