  • Food & Essentials Sent to Mullaitivu's Trapped Civilians: Navy Ensures Safe Passage

    THE UN World Food Program dispatched 1,030 metric tonnes of essential food items on Wednesday (1) to trapped civilians in Mullaitivu on the ICRC chartered vessel. The Navy is providing assistance and safe passage to transport the food items. Navy spokesman Captain D.P.K. Dassanayake said MV City of Dublin carried over 1,030 mt. of food items in addition to medical items and emergency health and shelter kits. The cargo will be handed over to the Government Agent in Mullaitivu to be distributed among the displaced.

  • Kelebogaswewa Resettled Families Receive Relief Items


    One more donation of essentials plus educational accessories to civilians and school students in the resettled Kelebogaswewa village area took place on Thursday (29). An estimated group of 238 families received kerosene oil chimney lamps, clothes, garments, kitchen appliances, school books and a few other essentials during this brief ceremony in the village area.

  • 75 Houses to be Built for Landside Victims at Meeriyabedda


    The foundation stone laying ceremony for construction of 75 houses for landslide victims at the Meeriyabedda area was held at the Ampitikanda land on Thursday (18). The ceremony was attended by Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary to Ministry of Defence and Urban Development (MOD & UD) as the Chief Guest.
     
     
     
  • Chinese Envoy Calls on Army Commander

    AMBASSADOR for People's Republic of China H.E. Ms. Yang Xiuping called on Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya Wednesday (2) afternoon in order to pay a courtesy call.
    The visiting ambassador congratulated the Army Commander on his new appointment as the 19th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army and recalled the challenging tasks he performed as the Security Forces Commander (Wanni) when the Wanni Humanitarian Operations were at their peak.

  • SLLI Training School 'Holiday Bungalow' Opened


    Adding one more new facility, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army on Monday (23) afternoon, called at the Boossa Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Training School at the invitation of its Chief Instructor (CI) to open the new “Officers’ Holiday Bungalow” in the complex.
  • Be Vigilant, Says Defence Ministry

    THE PUBLIC should remain vigilant as the LTTE may launch sudden attacks in any part of the country during the Vesak festive season, the Defence Ministry warned yesterday. “There is a possibility that the LTTE which is now desperate in its hour of defeat may launch sudden attacks in any part of the island,” the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) said. It said that in this context, is essential that the public be extra vigilant about security.  It is a common sight that large crowds visit Colombo and suburban towns for sightseeing and to engage in meritorious activities organized to mark the Vesak festival.

  • Career Guidance Seminar for School Leavers Attract 828 Students from Jaffna

     
    Expanding the Army-initiated community development roles further, 52 Division and 521 Brigade Headquarters recently launched a seminar on ‘Skill and Resource Development and Career Guiding’ for the benefit of school-leavers after sitting the G.C.E Advanced Level examination in August 2013.
     
  • Differently Able War Heroes Show Their Talents

    THE “RANAVIRU TALENT SHOW”, a variety entertainment programme at Ragama Ranaviru Sevana to showcase the talents of disabled War Heroes was held during the weekend. Mrs. Manjulika Jayasooriya, President Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) attended the occasion as Chief Guest. She was received on arrival by Mrs Preethi Samaratunga, President Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Seva Vanitha Unit.

  • Govt. to Celebrate the Victory Against Terrorism

    THE GOVERNMENT is to celebrate the Victory against Terrorism in a week long festival islandwide starting tomorrow from schools, said Agriculture Minister Maithripala Sirisena. School Principals have been instructed to get the participation of 3.9 million students for ‘Ranaviru Pranama’ – Hounouring War Heroes -- programmes at schools today. Tomorrow all state institutions, semi-government institutions, local government institutions, provincial councils and district secretariats are to conduct ‘Ranaviru Pranama’ programmes in their respective institutions, he said. On Friday, May 22 there will be a mass ‘National Ranaviru Pranama’ rally at the Parliament grounds in Sri Jayewardenepura. It will be addressed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
