  • 56 Army Built New Houses Provided to Displaced People

    Fifty-six families who have hitherto lived in the IDP centre at Kiliweddi on Wednesday (25) after their displacement in the south of Sampoor, took charge of their new houses, built by Army soldiers at Seedanaveli, Muttur under the government’s ‘Negenahira Navodaya’ development programme.
  • New Commander Joins Fast-Breaking 'Ifthar' Ritual

    Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake joined Muslim members of the Sri Lanka Army to celebrate ‘Ifthar’, breaking of 'Ramadan' fast Monday evening (05) at a fast-breaking event, organized at 'Laya Beach' Hotel, Wadduwa. The event was organized by the Muslims Association of the Sri Lanka Army under the patronage of its President Brigadier M. Z. R. Sallay.

  • Newest 'Ordnance Factory' for Manufacture of Essentials Opened at Dombagoda

    Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, intent on encouraging the production of Army essentials within the organization itself, embarked on another new project on Monday (1) after ceremonially inaugurating the newest ‘Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Factory’ at Dombagoda Horana where iron beds are manufactured under the first phase.
  • Curfew in Jaffna Completely lifted for Nallur Festival

    JAFFNA: SECURITY Forces in Jaffna, considering the mammoth crowd of devotees flocking to the annual ongoing Nallur Kovil festival in JAFFNA completely lifted curfew hours that was in force between 12 midnight and 4.00 a.m. in the JAFFNA peninsula beginning Tuesday (18) evening. This is the first time in recent years the Security Forces completely lifted the curfew hours in the peninsula.

  • SLAC & SLSR Swimmers Show Colours Separately and Carry Away Men's Championships in Novices and Open Categories

    The Army Inter-Regiment Swimming and Water Polo Championship-2011 that annually grooms  swimmers of high standards  to the country's national pool had its final closing ceremony Thursday (1) evening at Panagoda Army Cantonment where the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya as the Chief Guest became an onlooker to the final feats of the event. A total of 319 swimmers, including 27 woman swimmers representing almost all the regiments in the Army vied with one another for supremacy during the three-day (Nov 29,30 & Dec 1) long tournament, organized by the Army Swimming and Water Polo Committee.....
  • Six More New Houses to Come Up at Veheratenna

    Courtesy Dr D.T Gamage, a scholar expatriate, based in Australia, six more resettled villagers in Veheratenna are to receive new houses, following initiatives taken by the Security Forces Headquarters – Wanni (SFHQ-W).  Laying of foundation stones for the project took place on Monday (21) during a simple ceremony, attended by the sponsor and Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, SFHQ-W.

  • Selected Children & Civilians Gifted with Garments & Cash

    98 children of low income groups and down-trodden civilians, resident in Periyakulam village received financial grants and stocks of clothes as donations from a group of Singaporeans, including Ven. Gunarathana Thero of Singapore. The donation, coordinated by 56 Division on the directions of Brigadier N.A.P.C Napagoda, General Officer Commanding, 56 Division, took place Thursday (19) in the presence of Ven. Gunarathana Thero and a few donors from Singapore.
