  • New 'Abimansala - 3' at Kurunegala Pangolla Ready for Service of Permanently Disable War Heroes

    Attaching greater significance to the eternal welfare concerns of North West-resident dependant Army War Heroes, the new wellness resort, `Abimansala - 3' at Pangolla, Kurunegala is set to be opened ceremonially on April 25, 2014, said Major General Mano Perera, Director General Rehabilitation during a media briefing at the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) conference hall on Thursday (17).

  • Army Rifle & Pistol Shooters Carry Championships

    Air Rifle and Pistol shooters of the Sri Lanka Army did extremely well in the recent National Shooting Sport Foundation (NSSF) of the Navy and carried away championships in both men and women’s categories (open meet). Organized by Sri Lanka Navy Small Arms Association, the event got underway at the firing range of the Naval Base, Welisara during June 9 - 15.
  • Defence Makes A Submission to Court

    The Court Martial – 2 probing charges against G.S.C. Fonseka resumed its sittings Thursday (26) at 3.00 p.m. as scheduled. Defence Counsel made a submission to the Court that Defence would be calling up witnesses when the Court resumes its sittings on Friday (August 27th) at 3.00 p.m.  

  • Awareness Programme at SFHQ-W to Mark 'National No Tobacco Week'

    Mr Sampath de Seram and Mr Indika Rajapakshe of the ‘Alcohol and Drug Information Center’ launched an awareness programme on narcotics at the Security Force Headquarters Wanni (SFHQ-W) auditorium on Friday (05) with the participation of 20 officers and 400 soldiers serving the SFHQ-W.
  • Racing Gains Ground in Sevanagala

    Amidst a large gathering of racing enthusiasts, ‘Walawe Supercross-2013’, the exciting racing event held for the 3rd time stormed the Craftmen Aerodrome at Sevanagala, Udawalawe last Sunday (07). This year’s event received further teeth when organizers, together with Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club (SLMCC), lined up 27 events, including twelve motor car and fifteen motorbike events and two exhibition events for the day.

  • 234 Brigade Distributes Fishing Items among Five Resettled Families

    AS A PART of its continuing post-war humanitarian assistance, a stock of items needed for fishing were distributed among five poor families by 18th (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment [18 (V) SLSR] serving under Batticaloa-based 234 Brigade on Saturday (07) during a simple ceremony  function held at 18 (V) SLSR Headquarters. The donation sponsored by Seva Lanka Foundation included five push-bicycles, five fishing nets, each weighing about 3.5 kg and five wooden boxes to be used for selling fish.
