  • First Lady Takes Gifts to Vavuniya Children

    THE First Lady Mrs. Shiranthi Rajapaksa along with wives of Senior Military officers visited Vavuniya on Monday (10) and donated bank deposit books containing Rs.75,000/= each among the children living in the “Siriliya Sevana”  children’s home in Vavuniya. Mrs. Rajapaksa also distributed a stock of gift parcels among those inmates, most of who are without their parents. Wanni Security Forces Commander Major General MK Jayawardana and several other Army and police senior officers were present on the occasion.

  • Maldives' Chief of Defence Force Calls on Army Commander

    Maldives’ Chief of Defence Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam, now on a goodwill tour to Sri Lanka called on the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya Monday (10) afternoon. Earlier on the day, the visiting military chief paid a courtesy call on Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development and exchanged views on security matters of regional concern.

    Here is a statement issued by the Government on Monday (27):

         Government of Sri Lanka has decided that combat operations have reached their conclusion. Our Security Forces have been instructed to end the use of heavy caliber guns, combat aircraft and aerial weapons which could cause civilian casualties. Our Security Forces will confirm their attempts to rescuing civilians who are held hostage and give foremost priority to saving civilians.

  • Secretary Defence Shows Keen Interest Visiting Army Stalls

    On the eve of the National Independence Day ceremony at Kataragama, Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa, now in Kataragama, took time off to visit the Buttala ‘Deyata Kirula’ Exhibition site Thursday (3) afternoon, hours before its formal opening. Chief of Defence Staff, Army and Navy Commanders, Inspector General of Police and senior officers received the visiting Secretary Defence on arrival and conducted him to show around exhibition stalls that have been put up by Tri-services, Police and the Civil Defence Force.
