  • One More Patriotic War Hero Receives New House

    Patriotic services of one more War Hero who shouldered the burden of defending the country in military operations, Jayasikuru, Riviresa, etc, at the risk of his own legs and limbs, were once again lauded and appreciated by the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), awarding him a new house at Gampaha. Come 4th April morning when Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President SVAB, accompanied by several senior SVAB officials attended the ceremony that symbolically awarded the house to disable War Hero, Corporal R.M. Sunil Shantha, amidst religious rites and rituals.

    COMMANDER of the Army Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka, in his message on account of Vesak (Thrice Blessed Day) commemoration pays tribute to his troops who have selflessly dedicated themselves to inherit a better future for a great Nation. Here is the full text of his message;  “On this sacred Vesak Full Moon day (8th May) when Thrice Blessed Day is commemorated by all Sri Lankan Buddhists, let me extend my best wishes too to all officers, other ranks, civil staff and their families by wishing them a very happy Vesak, filled with peace, spiritual emancipation and loving kindness as taught in Buddhism.

  • Indian Experts to Help Speed up Demining in Lanka

    INDIAN Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has directed the Defence Minister to send a team of experts to Sri Lanka to help in speeding up the removal of mines in the war-ravaged Mannar, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts to pave the way for speedy resettlement of uprooted Tamils now living in make-shift camps in Vavuniya. This was stated here on Saturday (24) by Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. V. Thangabalu who accompanied the team of DMK and Congress MPs from Tamil Nadu.....

    Troops of the 6 Sri Lanka Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) under the 22 Division of the Security Force Headquarters- East (SFHQ-E) with the intention of helping the community cleaned the Ayurvedic Hospital premises at Nilaweli on Saturday (5). Moreover, troops of the 17 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) under the 23 Division distributed 100 dry ration packets among 100 low-income families on Monday (7).
