  • VIR War Heroes Commemorated in Special Ceremony

     
    The third phase of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment’s (VIR) War Hero commemorative ceremony took place recently at the Boyagane VIR Regimental Headquarters. 655 spouses, children and close relatives of 288 fallen/missing VIR War Heroes during this ceremony, headed by Colonel of the Regiment, Major General R.V Samarathunga, received accolades and appreciation. Those relatives planted medicinal herbs in memory of each fallen War Hero.....
     
  • President Hands Over Keys of 'Api Wenuwen Api' Built 14 More New Houses to War Heroes


    One more phase of the Defence Ministry’s (MoD) ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ fund, initiated district-wise house construction project for War Heroes, saw its fruition in Ampara, Trincomalee and Batticaloa Districts on Wednesday (19) with the ceremonial inauguration of 14 more new houses by His Excellency, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
     
  • Army's Largest Benevolent Fund Embraces Software Technology

     
    The Army’s largest savings fund, ‘The Army Benevolent Fund’, composed of Army personnel’s savings, loan schemes, deposit releases, pensions, welfare, etc, turned a new leaf when a newly- installed free and open software fund management programme, was introduced on Monday (17) for effective implementation and administration, thanks to generosity, shown by the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA).
     
  • Chain of Commemorative Events Marks Signal Corps 68th Regimental Day

     
    The Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) to coincide with its Regimental Day had a series of commemorative events in the past 3 days (October 17 -20) at its Regimental Headquarters. It all began on Sunday (16) night after an all night Pirith chanting ceremony which transferred merits on fallen SLSC War Heroes and invoked blessings on those serving the SLSC Regiment. On the following day (17), close relatives of fallen SLSC War Heroes gathered at the SLSC War Memorial and paid floral tributes to their loved ones.....

  • 'All Time Surveillance on Remaining Tigers Vital' Says Secretary Defence at Kilinochchi SFHQ Opening

     
    The new Security Forces Headquarters Complex at Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN), comprised of an air-conditioned conference hall plus a separate auditorium, administrative offices, computer and signal room, mess hall and a few other wings was ceremonially opened on Friday (21) morning and handed over to the use of War Heroes serving Kilinochchi sector. At the invitation of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence as Chief Guest.....

  • SLAOC Anniversary Creates History with Presence of Army Commander as Chief Guest

     
    The Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (SLAOC) marked its 62nd anniversary and the Regimental Day with a series of events beginning on Oct 14, 2011 at its Headquarters. It had a parade, an All Ranks tea party and a lunch on the same day (14), followed by a get-together with all SLAOC retired and serving officers. The climax of the commemoration took place on Friday (21) night when the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya.....
     
  • Bank Donor Distributes Gift Parcels

     
    100 newly resettled civilians in the 563 Brigade area in Kelebogaswewa village under 56 Division, thanks to initiatives taken by the Army received gift parcels, sponsored by Mr B.G Kollonna at People's Bank. Torches, torch batteries, lanterns, kerosene lamps, school items, toys, etc were among those essentials that were distributed among them.
