  • Priest Accused of Helping LTTE to Recruit

    A GROUP of parents who came over to the military side late last month had complained that a priest in the ‘no fire zone’ in Mullaitivu, had helped the LTTE to forcibly recruit several hundred underage children. According to one mother (whose name cannot be revealed for security reasons), parents had sent some 600 children to a Catholic Church located in Walayarmadam, Priest accused of helping LTTE to recruit just south of Puthumatalan, to protect the children against recruitment by the LTTE.

  • Twenty Micro Pistols & Ten 9 mm Pistols among Recoveries

    NORTH: ARMY troops during their search and clear operations on Saturday (14) recovered five claymore mines, two T-56 weapons, three hand grenades, sixty-two anti personnel mines, two shotguns, one .22 rifle, two repeater guns, one magazine, one M-16 weapon, twenty micro pistols, one revolver, ten 9 mm pistols, one 5.5 weapon and two Multi Purpose Machine guns from the general areas of MIRUSUVIL, KILINOCHCHI, VISUAMADUKULAM, MULLIAVALAI, AKKARAYANKULAM and IRANAMADU.

  • Puthukkudiyiruppu Madya Maha Vidyalaya After De-mining Work Back to Life


    682 Brigade troops soon after the green signal was received from those de-miners in the area conducted a collective Shramadana campaign and renovated all the class rooms in this school which remained hitherto abandoned since de-mining work was on in the area.   • SLLI Veteran Brigadier Benadict Silva (Retd) Passes Away


    The death of another most-admired and illustrious senior officer, Brigadier S Benadict Gabriel De Silva (Retd) of Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI), occurred on Tuesday (27) after a brief illness. Famed for his affable personality and multifaceted social service projects while in service and particularly after retirement, Brigadier De Silva remained a very popular figure in his home town, attracting the goodwill of everyone who knew him. His was a service unparalleled in the SLLI of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF), specially during the crucial stages of the country in 1980s due to political upheavals where he was the District Coordinating Officer for Polonnaruwa, Ampara, and Puttalam in separate time periods.
