  • Prabhakaran a Terrorist as far as India is Concerned


    "AS far as the Indian Government is concerned, the LTTE is a terrorist organisation and Prabhakaran is a terrorist. The Government and Congress party consider the LTTE to be responsible for Rajiv Gandhi's assassination. We would expect Lanka to hand Prabhakaran over to us. Karunanidhi's remarks saying "Prabhakaran is not a terrorist" are his personal," Congress party spokesperson Kapil Sibal said.     MULLAITTIVU: THE MASS exodus of trapped civilians from the “No Fire Zone” (NFZ) at PUTHUMATHALAN took a dramatic upward turn by 1.00 p.m. Tuesday (21) afternoon, bringing the total number of escapees who have reached troops  to 52,087 as more and more Tamil civilians were trudging towards the areas held by government troops for protection of their lives. The “World’s Biggest Rescue Operation” now in full swing after valiant troops on Sunday (19) night pierced the LTTE earth bund and enabled trapped civilians to move out saw 39,820 besieged civilians reaching 58 Division troops by Tuesday (21) morning.

  • FLEEING CIVILIANS DEFY TIGER DIKTATS & HEAD FOR CLEARED AREAS

    MULLAITTIVU: PANDEMONIUM has broken out in the PUTHUMATHALAN “No Fire Zone” (NFZ) Monday (20) afternoon as a gathering of some 5,000 or more trapped civilians defied LTTE threats, braved to cross two more LTTE built earth bunds. Those fleeing civilians have been challenged, confronted and surrounded by gun-trotting Tigers inside the NFZ on their way but resisting civilians have gone on arguing against their detention by the LTTE. Heated arguments have prompted Tigers to react to the chaos by firing at them.

  • Unidentified Gunmen Take VOG's Life


    VAVUNIYA:
    THE Visiting Obstetrician Gynecologist (VOG) of the VAVUNIYA hospital was shot dead by unidentified gunmen Monday (20) evening around 7.00 p.m.. The victim, Dr. MEERA MOHIDEEN (53), who sustained fatal injuries in the shooting later succumbed to his injuries. Another doctor named JEYARUBAN who was in the vicinity at the time of the incident was also injured. The VAVUNIYA Police are conducting investigations.
  • ARMY RECEIVES 49058 TRAPPED CIVILIANS IN 24 HOURS

    MULLAITTIVU: THE LATEST HEADCOUNT who sought protection for their lives after arriving in cleared areas of PUTHUKUDIRIPPU from the PUTHUMATHALAN “No Fire Zone” in the past twenty-four hours ending Tuesday (21) noon has now risen to 49,058, updated statistics received by the Army confirmed. 58 Division troops have received 41,000 civilians whereas the troops, attached to the 55 Division accepted a total of 5863 civilians who crossed the sand bund. 53 Division troops meanwhile received twenty-eight escapees during Monday (20). Naval troops on Monday (20) in the meantime recorded the receipt of 2167 escapees who had fled on ordinary fishing craft across the seas.

  • Commander Briefs Visiting Pakistan NDU Team on Current Security Developments

    A DELEGATION of officers, attached to the Pakistan National Defence University (NDU), now visiting Sri Lanka as part of their study programme called on Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka, Commander of the Army Tuesday (21) morning at the Army Headquarters. The visiting team of delegates, headed by Rear Admiral Tayyab Ali Dogar as Group Leader included seventeen military officers from Pakistan tri-services and military men from Saudi Arabia, Germany and United Kingdom.

    CHINA on Tuesday came out in support of the Sri Lankan Government's efforts to wipe out the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and apprehend its leader V. Prabhakaran. It also backed the decision of the Nepal's Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Prachanda, to induct Maoist forces in the country's army. Both Nepal and Sri Lanka are friendly to China.
