Equally a supportive role being extended by the re-organized Civil Defence Force has enormously assisted the Security Forces to defend territorial integrity and crush terrorism. They too work hand in hand with members of the tri-services.

    Boxers of Sri Lanka Army challenged their Indian counterparts in a friendly meet at Panagoda Army Physical Training School Gymnasium on 26 September 2003. Some experienced and national level Sri Lankan and Indian Army boxers showed their colours at this meet graced by the Chief of Staff Major General LCR Goonewardene as Chief Guest.

    The \"Ranaviru Upakara-Upahara Flag Day\" orgainzed under the auspices of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) headed by Mrs Soniya Kottegoda, President, ASVU got under way on Wednesday (27) after Mrs Kottegoda pinned the first flag on Prime Minister Hon. Mahinda Rajapakse at Temple Trees.
  • UN bound second lot leaves for Haiti

    The second lot of the first batch, assigned for UN peacemaking missions in Haiti including 17 Officers and 292 Other Ranks of the Army, left for Haiti early on Thursday (28) morning amidst greetings and best wishes. The first UN batch left for Haiti in September with 14 Officers and 114 Other Ranks, a historical phenomenon as far as the Sri Lanka Army is concerned.

    THE CEREMONIAL OPENING of the modern state-of-the-art multi-storeyed courts complex in Jaffna is historic not only for Jaffna but to all Sri Lankans, Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva PC said. He was speaking after opening the Jaffna Courts Complex on Wednesday. Judicial officers of the Jaffna District, Senior and Junior members of the Jaffna Bar and senior citizens of the Jaffna district participated.

    THE MEDIA SPOKESMAN for National Security, Honorable Minister Keheliya Rambukwella held a Media briefing at the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) this morning (26). He stated that at the media briefing at the MCNS on 22nd morning he reminded that he had stated whatever information that was available at the time regarding the LTTE Terrorist attack on the Anuradhapura Air Force Base. He reminded that the LTTE Terrorist attack was around 3.05 am and what he proposed today was to discuss any matters arising from what was told at the earlier briefing as there were some misgivings in some quarters of the media that the information given was not only withheld but was also untrue.
