    Contemporary military leader par excellence, Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa RWP RSP VSV USP rcds psc, the archetype of Sri Lankan soldier and one of the most loved, ardent and illustrious advocates of peace exactly thirteen years ago on a day like today (8th August), made the supreme sacrifice with nine other War Heroes in an LTTE orchestrated explosion at Araly Point in Kayts, Jaffna. His death anniversary with other fallen heroes is commemorated today in Anuradhapura, Jaffna, Vavuniya and many other areas in the island.
  • One more Human Rights course gets under way

    The Sri Lanka Army's sixteen-day long sixth Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCO) Instructor Course on Human Rights (HR) and International Humanitarian Law (IHL), organized in collaboration with the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) and Institute of Human Rights commenced Wednesday (3) at Panagoda, Army Cantonment.

    Remains of the late Superintended of Police (SP) Mr. W. D CHARLES WIJEWARDENE, who was brutally hacked to death by LTTE incited mobs in PALAVODAI, JAFFNA after accidental discharge of a soldier's weapon killed a barber inside a public saloon, were flown to KURUNEGALA Hospital late night on Thursday (04) for post-mortem and subsequent funeral arrangements.

  • Soldier finds projector of the former Director

    Media did it well this time. Former Director, Planning and Plan Implementation at Jaffna Divisional Secretariat Mr. C. Mahalingam on his way across the Muhamalai Entry/Exit point left behind his two-lakh worth multi-media projector by mistake on 31st July 2004 but went home to repent for his absent-mindedness. With no trace of a hope, he deliberately forgot about it and moved about as usual.

    Commander, United States Marine Forces Pacific, Lieutenant General Wallace C. Gregson who is in the island on a friendly visit, made a trip down to Jaffna yesterday ( 05) morning with four other US military officers.
