[Updated :: 2009-07-04 15:47:01 Hours || Home]

 EAST: THE FORMER LTTE leader for BATTICALOA, moving on a boat in KIRANKULAM seas during the wee hours on Saturday (4) staged a terrorist drama when the boat was to be checked by an Army soldier on suspicion.

An Army soldier on duty by the side of the beach has spotted this suspicious boat with one man on board and apprehended it and tried to search it after talking to the boatman. But the boatman, now identified as NALLARATHNAM MOHAN, a leading LTTE terrorist for BATTICALOA region suddenly grabbed the soldier is weapon and went on firing at him.

Two more soldiers in close proximity, ran to the place, but they were also fired upon by the terrorist who by then was holding the soldiers gun. However, soldiers in the area managed to overpower the terrorist after shooting at him. Police immediately rushed to the scene and took the terrorist leader with gunshot injuries into custody. One of the soldiers succumbed to injuries due to gun fire triggered by the terrorist who has now been admitted to BATTICALOA hospital under Police custody.

An intensified search conducted on the terrorist’s person, found four passport photographs, one Identity Card, one cyanide capsule and Rs. 16500.00 in cash.

The BATTICALOA police are conducting further investigations.
