Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, an avid fan of football witnessed the final match as the Chief Guest of the occasion.

The closely-contested final tussle between Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) and Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) teams ended up, finally bringing victory to SLASC with 4 - 2 goals.

In the women’s encounter, 4 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) team emerged victorious, pushing their rival 2 (V) SLAWC to be the runners up.

Earlier, players in the MIC beating their Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) rivals and SLASC players defeating Commando Regiment (CR) footballers secured their entry into Tuesday’s finals.

The annual tournament, organized by Army Football Federation, chaired by Brigadier H D W Kariyawasam was contested by 19 Regiments, including two teams of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps Regiments.

Championship award was presented to the winners by the Chief Guest Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army at the conclusion of the tournament. Separate trophies were awarded to the Best Goalkeeper (men) and Best Player (men) by Commander of the Army.

Chief of Staff together with the Deputy Chief of Staff gave away trophies to the Best Player and the Best Goalkeeper of the women teams and others.

In appreciation of contribution to the promotion of football in the Army two separate mementoes were awarded to Lieutenant Colonel S. Pathmanathan (men’s coach) and WO I M.H.M Noordeen (women’s coach) at the same occasion.
