Commander Wants New Construction Expedited Expanding Medical Facilities Further

[Updated :: 2012-09-11 16:45:30 Hours || Home]

The prime medical institute of the Army, ‘Military Hospital’ at Narahenpita is to be expanded and well-equipped with new state-of-the-art sophisticated therapeutic machinery and technicalities for provision of best quality medical care to all members of the Army.

This was disclosed Tuesday (11) morning during an inspection tour of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya to the worksite of the new Military Hospital complex under construction at Narahenpita Military Hospital compound.

Keen on inspecting the 10-storied medical ward/utility complex, now fast nearing completion in the premises, the Commander, accompanied by several senior officers, visited each and every floor under construction in the colossal building complex and saw for himself.

Touring the length and breadth of the new construction, the Commander exchanged views with architects, planners, technicians and constructors at hand and received an update from them, in response to inquiries he made, regarding various aspects of the ongoing project.

A few minutes later, Corps of Engineer Services (CES) troops, responsible for the overall construction of the new complex, provided the Commander with a comprehensive picture of the work in progress and explained how various facets need better attention and evaluation.

During the briefing, the Commander proposed certain amendments to originally earmarked locations of several units which are of importance to the operational aspect of the hospital complex. The Commander, giving necessary instructions to CES soldiers, engaged in use of specific building materials, reminded them of importance of the use of best quality products for durability and solidity.

The modern building complex, which is to be shortly opened, got underway a few months ago with the directions, given by the Commander of the Army after the hospital authorities projected the requirement after the medical service was shifted to Narahenpita. The new full-fledged building complex complements more space and better health care to Army personnel since this remains the central wing for all other Army peripheral medical units island-wide.

Major General E.P. de Z Abeysekara, Deputy Chief of Staff and Master General Ordnance, Major General S. Udumalagala, Quarter Master General, Major General Kamal Guneratne, Adjutant General, Major General E.M.M Ambanpola, Colonel Commandant, ESR, Major General Sanjaya Munasinghe, Medical Advisor, Brigadier K.P Sumanapala, Director Medical Services and several other senior officers were associated with the Commander’s Tuesday (11) morning visit to the hospital premises.
