MULLAITTIVU: LTTE MENTOR, PRABHAKARAN’s right hand, POTTU AMMAN alias PAPA OSCAR alias PO alias SOBHIGEMOORTHY alias KAILAN alias SHIVASHANKAR alias SHANMUGANATHAN who has been rated as the main mastermind in LTTE Intelligence  Network and Planning and LTTE’s notorious “Artillery” wing leader, BANU alias BN alias BRAVO alias SIVANANDAN alias SOMASEKARAN who was also the terrorist in charge of the final battle were confirmed dead and gone by the Military Intelligence, the Army Headquarters declared at 17.15 hours on Monday (18). 

POTTU AMMAN, the butcher who planned and struck the most sacred Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of Tooth) in Kandy on 25th January 1998 was also responsible for the following terrorist activities since 1982.

Attacks covered CHAVAKACHCHERI Police station on 27 October 1982 and Indian Peace Keeping Forces in BATTICALO (1987-1989), Ambush of Security Forces at UMAYALAPURAM (04 March 1983), Blasting of vacated Security Forces Headquarters in JAFFNA at GURUNAGAR in 1984, Attacks on EPS camp in July 1990 and several more local and international establishments including those on Sri Lankan embassies in the past two months.  

Brainy POTTU AMMAN planned and executed the world-renowned Indian Prime Minister RAJIV GANDHI’s assassination on 28 June 1991.

He was also responsible for the planning and co - ordination of taking LTTE’s deputy leader MAHATTAYA into custody on 02 August 1993. Bombing of the Central Bank on 31 January 1996, Assassination of YOGESWARAN and A. AMIRTHALINGAM in Colombo on 13.07.1989, Leader of the EPRLF PATHNABA in MADRAS, India on 01.06.1990, Defence Minister RANJAN WIJERATNE on 02.03.1991,Commander of the Navy CLANCY FERNANDO at GALLE FACE on 21.06.1991, President PREMADASA on Amour Street on 01.05.1993, Minister GAMINI DISSANAYAKE at THOTALANGA political rally on 24.10.1994, Minister of Industries C V GOONERATNE on 07 .06.2000 and Minister of Foreign Affairs LAKSHMAN KADIRAGAMAR on 12.08.2005.

Assassination attempts were made on President CHANDRIKA KUMARATUNGE on 18.12.1999, Minister DOUGLAS DEVANANDA on 28.11.2007, Mr STEVAN PEIRIS (Secretary Coordinator to Minister DOUGLAS DEVANANDA on 28.11.2007), Minister of Highways & Road Development and Chief Government Whip JEYARAJ FERNANDOPULLE on 06.04.2008.

Secretary Defence GOTABHAYA RAJAPAKSA and Lieutenant General SARATH FONSEKA, incumbent Commander of the Army miraculously escaped death following failure of assassination attempts on their lives which were mapped out by the terrorist, POTTU AMMAN.

BANU, the terrorist assigned to fight against the Army in PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU were involved in following major crimes and terrorist activities. He was 49 years of age when felled by the Army.

He took part in  Adampan attack on 13th October 1986, Pannai (Jaffna) SF camp on 23 march 1987, PLOTE camp  at Mullikulam on 21 may 1989, Nedunkandal attack on 30th July 1989 between IPKF and LTTE, Meegasgodella attack on 24 January 1993, Counter attack of the Jayasikuru operation 1997/98, Attacks on Oddusudan, Nedunkerny, Mankulam, Olumadu attack (LTTE operation - OYADA ALIGAL 03 stage 1) on 02 November 1999,

He was in charge of artillery and armoured units during the Elephant pass military base attack in 2000.

He took part in Vasavilan camp attack in 1991, Poonaryn attack on 11th November 1993, Mandathivu camp attack on 28 June 1995, Riviresa counter attack in 1995 and commanded artillery fire in the counter offensive operation against operations Agnikheela – I (25th to 28th April 2001).  

This terrorist commanded LTTE cadres in Mannar north against advancing troops in Madhu, Giant Tank, Adampan and Vettikulam between September - December 2007.     

He also led counter attacks, against SF operations at Pallikuli, Parappakandal, `Andankulam, Vedithalathive Iluppukadavai, Vellankulam , Mulankavil and Akkarayankulam   in 2008 and the SF attacks in the liberation PARAPPAKADATHTHAN area in December 2007.


Woman terrorist, NADESHAN, the wife of the LTTE’s so-called “Police” wing leader, NADESHAN who was killed earlier has also been confirmed killed while fighting the troops this morning (18).  She had been actively participating in attacks conducted by the LTTE women’s wing.
