Amidst Seth Pirith chanting of Maha Sangha and blessings of well-wishers and relatives, one more disable War Hero in Alawathugoda, Kandy under the patronage of the Gemunu Watch Seva Vanitha Unit received a new house on Monday (28).
This is in compliance with the Seva Vanitha Army Branch’s ongoing project to construct / complete houses for War Heroes with disabilities on priority basis.
During a visit to one of the military hospitals by members of the Gemunu Watch Seva Vanitha Unit as recommended by the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), they came across Private W.M.N.B. Wijekoon of Alawathugoda, Mawathapola, Kandy who had suffered injuries in the battlefield during January 2009 and became totally disable at a time he was getting ready to construct his dream home at Kandy.
His Gemunu Watch (GW) Regiment’s Seva Vanitha Unit with the blessings of the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) harnessed the support of several donors and philanthropists for construction of this new house while his fellow-soldiers in 6 GW, through their labour and expertise came forward to build the house.
Australia domiciled Mr Pathmalal Withanage, Proprietor, Sanmik Natural Food Pvt Ltd, Mr Piyal Perera, Mrs Shanthi Atapattu, Mr Sarath Perera and Proprietors of Real Ceramics and A.S.N. Hardware gave their patronage for construction of the new house.
His dream finally came true. During a simple ceremony Monday(28) morning, Mrs Jayasuriya at the invitation of the GW Seva Vanitha Chairperson, Mrs Chintha Udumalagala unveiled a plaque, cut a ribbon and handed over the keys of the complete house to the War Hero as the auspicious moment struck. In the midst of Seth Pirith chanting and house-warming traditions, the War Hero and his family members entered the new abode.
Mrs Jayasuriya at the same occasion gifted a parcel of house accessories to the recipient as a token of goodwill. A gathering of senior SVAB officials and Army officers were present.
Meanwhile, a cheque to the value of Rs 252,338.50, a part of the proceeds from the recent off road motor cross event, conducted by the 11 Division Headquarters, was delivered to Mrs Jayasuriya on the same occasion to be used for Brave Hearts projects.
